Well Maniac and Maniacs are the same word. Just add a S.

Adding the S makes it mean more then one.

Maniac or Maniacs Mean: Crazy, a Loon, Wacko, insane, Mad.

By adding the S it just means more then one.

So Maniacs Mean a Bunch of MAD or crazy people.

I do know what "maniac" means, thank you.

Calling it "maniacs mansion" doesn't put more maniacs in there, it just sounds wrong, like "four wheels drive" or "pizzas slices".
It's supposed to be "four wheel drive" and "pizza slices", isn't it?
